White Rock Marathon Relay

On Sunday, I ran with Malory in her portion of the White Rock Marathon Relay! She had signed up as a team with some people from her office, and each person took one leg of the relay. Malory's portion of the relay was five miles. We started running together at the beginning of the semester to work up to it. I have been running for quite a while, but Malory really started getting into it after she signed up for the relay. Part of our working up to the relay was running in the law school's Race Judicata 5K this past October.

Here is us just before we started running. It was around 10:30 AM down at White Rock Lake, and it was cold and overcast! We were pretty cold before we started running, but a mile or so into it, we warmed up and thoroughly enjoyed the run.

And here is us right after finishing the five-mile leg of the relay!

We were excited and proud to finish!

And here is Malory with Sarita and Marnie, two of her co-workers who also ran in the relay. They had also run with us in the law school's 5K.

Running in the relay was a great experience! There were about 20,000 runners there between the marathoners, half-marathoners, and relay runners. There were probably about three times that many people there to cheer on family, friends, and complete strangers, in addition to various groups passing out water and Gatorade to the runners, and bands performing at intervals along the path. It was a pretty great event, and it was really fun seeing so many people and families participating. Malory and I both thought we would enjoy running in another event like this, so hopefully we'll both keep it up in the meantime!
