A Visit from Jed

My good friend Jed came to visit us for a few days in Dallas this week. Jed has been living in Germany for a while now, pursuing his Masters degree in European-American relations (largely involving political science and history). We don't get to spend too much time together these days, but when we do, we sure do enjoy it.

We decided that one evening during his visit we would cook a good meal for Stephany and us. Jed suggested a French dish, Coq au Vin ("cock and wine"), which he had cooked before. Basically, it is chicken cooked with a variety of ingredients—we used onions, carrots, garlic, thyme, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, and bacon—in a wine sauce (more like a stew really), served over mashed potatoes.

The meal as served. It turned out to be wonderfully delicious, and I'm already looking forward to making it again sometime.



Beyond cooking a fantatsic meal with my friend, we really enjoyed our time together. Next week, he heads back to Germany and I head back to law school. The winter break has been very enjoyable for Stephany and me, and we're very glad to have been able to spend some good time with family and close friends.
