Macy's 1st Birthday

Two weeks ago, we went down to Waco for the day to celebrate our little niece Macy's first birthday! We had a really fun time! Jamie's family was there (her parents Jan and Tom and her sister and brother-in-law Jill and Todd and their three kids), my mom and her friend James came, and several of Stephen and Jamie's friends (and their kids) from Waco were there.

One thing that was fun about that day was playing with the kids in the huge jumpy house they had set up in the backyard. Here are some good pics of my mom and Stephen playing with Macy.

And here are a couple of Macy and me. That's Gracen, Jill's oldest child, on the right. It's fun watching the cousins play and grow up together. My siblings and I never had cousins, so it has been really fun with my brother and sister having kids - and now us too soon!! It's so much fun for our family!

Here is Macy testing out a birthday cupcake. She was a little hesitant.

We sang "happy birthday." She noted very seriously the attention she was getting.

Here's Stephen's assist with the cupcake.

And Will helped his little sister out a bit.

Stephen and Jamie had asked me to give a dedication for Macy at her party, which is something I had done back in Albuquerque for Will and James. So here I am speaking a little bit about community and how our collective dedication of ourselves to our children in community is a good representation of our call as Christians to commit ourselves to those outside of our community—that by following God's example, through love and commitment, we would call those who were previously not our people, "our people."

It was a great time. We were very happy to be able to spend the day with Stephen and Jamie's family and celebrate Macy's birthday. Stephany and I have felt very fortunate to have been able to spend some really good time with our families during the past three years of our marriage.

P.S. Jamie posted a few more pics of the party here.
